Here is what's happening on Castlemap (recent posts at the top of the page).

Updated Castlemap Base Map - October 2026

I've downloaded the latest OSM paths, tracks, etc. and also NSW Roads and other lines/polygons and updated the tiles. It's now a fresher look with more features... in Camden the biggest difference is footpaths were added by the OSM user "Lockstar".

Bing Buildings Footprints And "Tile Info" Tool Added - September 2026

The new footprints cover more buildings than Overture + OSM so I am redoing the "possible builds" layers to be more accurate. I've also added a "tile info" button to castlemap.au and the overlayer.js slippy map. It's a really handy way to navigate and get your head around how the tile systems work from various providers.

New Land Zoning Overlayer/Filter Added - August 2026

I've added a land zoning overlayer which shows, for example, the different Government residential zones, industrial zones, etc. I have kept the labels at zoom level 11 so you can see what Sydney's zonings are at a macro level and you can also zoom to level 19 for long text descriptions of the major zones.

New Zoomed-In Functionality - July 2026

You can now zoom to look at a screw head (5mm) or something real small going to level 30 zoom. Browsers handle things differently, for example, Safari on an iPhone looks a lot cleaner than Firefox Linux. If you need to view more accurate drawings of granny flats you can download a proper drawing at HouseStrategy.au (no login required).

7m x 7m Granny Flats (New Design) Now Online - June 2026

I've uploaded a new layer for the Sydney Property Map. It's a square flat design measuring 7m x 7m. You can download the plan from HouseStrategy.au (select 7m x 7m).

Granny Flat Map Layer Now Online - March 2026

It's taken years to do the Castlemap base layer and granny flats layer but it's finally online.

Switched Away From Wallabyup Now To Castlemap - January 2026

No longer doing a text based search engine (just maps now) so I have renamed the website to Castlemap.au (previously Wallabyup.au).

Map Working Well - October 2025

Map buttons and layers are working really well. There are now quick tiles up to zoom level 20 and then after zoom level 20 (L21+) it switches to a vector database lookup. The database lookup is slower but at zoom level 21+ you are only calling on the database for 1 granny flat (still quick). Todo: fix minor bugs (i.e. proposed granny flats are too close to an existing buiding (or overlapping). Then run the "granny flat tile generation script" for 8? hours to render all of Newcastle to Wollongong granny flats.

On Hold For A Bit - 26th April 2025

The granny flat map is coming along well, just have to replace a CSS "transform scale" style with a code-friendly hard coded x="0" y="0". After this change a "granny flat tile layer" will be in place on the map (which will be quicker than the current database lookup using vector graphics).

Slippy Map With Sydney Base Tiles Added - 1st November 2024

This Sydney slippy map will eventually be a property map of places where you can see floor plans of possible places to build. It's just a base map of streets/parks/etc. at the moment but I needed to put something out there just to show what I have been working on for so long.
